West Windsor, NJ. – The Salem Community College baseball team topped Mercer County Community College in a non-conference matchup. With the win the Mighty Oaks move to 18-17 on the season.
The Mighty Oaks offense was led by Matt Murphy who went 1-4 with his second grand slam home run in as many games. Murphy's fourth grand slam of the season. Murphy drove in the 4 runs to give Salem the lead. Sophomore Chris Kelly had a break out game going 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 runs scored. Tyler Hacker had a multi-hit day for the Mighty Oaks going 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
On the mound Alex Newman picked up the win for Salem coming out of the bullpen. Newman went 4 solid innings for the Mighty Oaks striking out 7 Vikings.
Up next for Salem will be a big three game Region 19 series with Bergan Community College. The Mighty Oaks will host game one at the Treehouse Friday April 17 with a 3:30PM first pitch and travel to BCC for a Saturday doubleheader staring at 12:00PM.
