Carneys Point, NJ. - The Salem Community College baseball team continued to build momentum this week, sweeping a two-game series against Delaware County Community College with victories of 9-5 and 15-4. With the pair of wins, the Mighty Oaks improve to 11-13 on the season.
Game One: Salem 9, Delaware County 5
The Mighty Oaks opened the series with a strong offensive performance, racking up 17 hits to secure a 9-5 victory.
Tyler Hacker led the charge at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-5 and scoring three runs, while Cliff Wysinger added three hits and ignited the offense on the basepaths with four stolen bases. Rocco String delivered a key performance with two hits and two RBIs, and Roman Hernandez chipped in with two hits, an RBI, and two stolen bases.
Salem showed its aggressiveness on the bases throughout the game, piling up multiple stolen bases from several players, including four from Hacker and four from Wysinger.
On the mound, Nick Reckard earned the win with a dominant outing in relief, tossing four innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four. Joe Pallante got the start, and Chase Walsh and Louie Rivera combined to close out the game and secure the victory.
Game Two: Salem 15, Delaware County 4
The Mighty Oaks carried that momentum into game two, exploding offensively in a 15-4 rout.
Salem's lineup produced 14 hits and drew eight walks, showcasing a balanced and patient approach at the plate. Jacob Sharrow had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Sal Mesete added two hits and two RBIs. Jay Barber also contributed with two hits and an RBI, and Jason LeBold added two hits, including a triple.
The Mighty Oaks continued to dominate on the basepaths, swiping numerous bases, including three from LeBold and three from Hacker, putting constant pressure on the Delaware County defense.
On the mound, Mike Valente earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing three runs while striking out three. Andre Stewart set the tone early with three strong innings, and Pat Seitzinger closed the door with a scoreless frame.
Salem will look to carry this momentum into Region 19 play as the Mighty Oaks prepare for a three-game series against RCSJ-Cumberland. The series begins Friday, March 27 at Salem with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 PM, before concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 at RCSJ-Cumberland.
