Carenys Point, NJ. - The Salem Community College baseball team battled through a three-game set but ultimately fell short, dropping two of three games to move to 12-15 on the season. After a tough 19-2 loss in the opener, the Mighty Oaks responded with a strong 7-1 win in game two before falling 8-3 in the series finale.
Game One: Salem 2, RCSJ-Cumberland 19
The series opened with a challenging outing for Salem, as the Mighty Oaks surrendered 19 runs despite collecting nine hits offensively.
Jason LeBold and Roman Hernandez each recorded two hits, with both players notching doubles. Tyler Hacker drove in both Salem runs with a triple, accounting for all of the team's offense.
On the mound, Seth McCormick took the loss, allowing seven runs over five innings while striking out five. Nick Reckard worked in relief as the opposition extended its lead late.
Game Two: Salem 7, RCSJ-Cumberland 1
The Mighty Oaks bounced back in a big way in game two, putting together a complete performance to secure a 7-1 victory.
Jay Barber led the offense with a home run and two RBIs, while Roman Hernandez added two hits and scored twice. Cliff Wysinger and Jason LeBold each contributed doubles as part of an 11-hit effort.
Additional RBIs came from Tyler Hacker, Colin McLaughlin, Aidan Nestor, and JJ Pankowski, highlighting Salem's balanced attack.
On the mound, Pat Seitzinger delivered a strong complete-game performance, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings to earn his first win of the season.
Game Three: Salem 3, RCSJ-Cumberland 8
In the rubber match, Salem was unable to carry over its momentum, falling 8-3 to drop the series.
Tyler Hacker drove in a run and added a stolen base, while Rocco String provided a spark with two hits and a run scored. Cliff Wysinger also doubled as part of the Mighty Oaks' six-hit effort.
On the mound, Sean Bogan took the loss after a difficult first inning. Louie Rivera provided stability in relief, allowing just one run over 4.1 innings, and Tyler Hacker closed out the game with a scoreless inning on the mound.
The Mighty Oaks will continue Region 19 play with a two-game series against Montgomery County Community College. Salem will travel for the first game on Tuesday, March 31 with a 3:30 PM first pitch, before returning home to host MCCC on Wednesday, April 1 at The Treehouse at Carneys Point Recreation Complex, also scheduled for 3:30 PM.
