Mighty Oaks Comeback Against Atlantic Cape to Win Opener, 80-73
(Hamilton, New Jersey) – The Mighty Oaks men's team opened up their season last night against the Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers and collected their first win of the season, 80-73.
In the first half, Zyaire Gibson would score nine of the Might Oaks 36 first half points on three connections from deep. Nasseem Wright would lead the Mighty Oaks in scoring at the half with 11, as they would go into the break down 45-36.
In the second half, the team would play much better, as they would put up 44 second half points to Atlantic Cape's 28. Saaid Lee lead the second half surge with 16 points, after only scoring two in the first. The same goes for Jarrell Little, who had 14 second half points after a two point first. As a team, the Mighty Oaks shot 29-33 from the charity stripe, with every player but Gibson and Michael Goodwin attempting a free throw.
Nasseem Wright had a monster night, recording 15 points, five rebounds, eight blocks, along with three steals. The leading scorer was Saaid Lee, who finished with 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Right behind lee, and rounding out the top three scorers, was Jarrell Little who had 16 points, four assists, and two steals.
The Mighty Oaks will head to Delaware County Community College next to face off against the Phantoms on November 8, with a tip-off time of 2 p.m.
