Men’s Soccer Wins Second Straight, Defeats Union CC
Predicktown, NJ. – Thiago Santos got the Mighty Oaks on the board early and finished out the scoring for the day as the Salem Community College men's soccer team defeated Region 19 foe Union County College 3-1, in Saturday afternoon match play.
It was a dominant effort by the Mighty Oaks as they lead less than five minutes into the match and did not relinquish the lead all day. Santos's goal put SCC up four minutes and thirty-four seconds into the match. The Mighty Oaks controlled the first half as Jaoa Pedro Gusman extended the Salem lead shortly after with his second goal of the season, assisted by Brandon Visser. Salem took the 2-0 lead into the half.
Santos added his second goal of the day for the Mighty Oaks once again early in the half. Union answered back with a goal of their own with just twenty minutes left in the half. The Owls continued with the pressure but the SCC defense was up to the challenge. UCC peppered goalie Matues Silva who was up to the task between the pipes allowing only the single Union goal.
The Mighty Oaks will continue their home stand when Atlantic Cape Community College will visit SCC at the home of Mighty Oaks soccer located at 10 Freed Road in Pedricktown. Kick off for the match will be at 3:30.
