Mighty Oaks Softball is Back
Carneys Point, NJ. – For the first time since the spring of 2013, Softball will be played at Salem Community College. Through the hard work and dedication of the college administration, athletic department and the hard work of Head Coach Angel Rodriguez, the Mighty Oaks will take the softball field when they travel to Whiteville North Carolina March 10 for a double-header against the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville.
"We are looking forward to getting this team started. It's great to be rolling out the first team for SCC since 2013," said Head Coach Angel Rodriguez. "This team has come together as a group quickly and I'm looking forward to seeing the success they have this season".
The roster will be made up of 14 women from Salem Community College and all across the United States. Are few highlighted and described by coach are:
Karyn Trice (Fishers, IN.) - Karyn is an outfielder and a left-handed slapper that has some good pop in her bat, a good arm, and some great range defensively. There is a chance for her to be in the infield a bit for us but she has been the leader of the outfield.
Faith Penn (Pennsville, NJ.) – Another outfielder who is going to be a key player. She is always smiling and keeping the energy flowing no matter the situation. She has a good bat, with speed and has good defensive range.
Caitlin LaGreca (Washington Twp.,NJ.) & Morgan Mecham (Blackfoot, ID.) – Both are two of our freshman pitchers who have picked up on their pitches since they came to school. Both pitchers have some good movement and good work ethic. They both pitched in big games before in their travel career. We are looking for them to take control of games.
Lanae Ben (Shiprock, NM.) & Haylee Pickrell (Morgan, UT.) – The two are our middle infielders and swing a good bat. Both can play multiple positions and we are going to use that throughout the season.
Kayla Dudley (Cherry Hill, NJ.) – She is a first baseman and power hitter. She has a great work ethic and is always finding ways to adjust when needed. She had an injury this past fall, but now she's back and getting fully healthy right now. She is starting to swing the bat even better and we are looking forward to seeing it this season.
Vaye Savage (Midland, TX.) – Is a player who will be playing multiple positions. She is very athletic. She catches, can pitch, plays shortstop and has played some first. She has power in her bat and is always learning. She has come in and made a big impact on our team, even just off the field with her personality and her leadership.
"I think all of our ladies really can contribute this year and that's going to be the key to staying successful," said Rodriguez. "It'll take every player and the roles they have that keep us going."
The Mighty Oaks will play their home games at the Carneys Point Recreational Park. Be sure to come out and see our Mighty Oaks Softball compete this season and check back to follow the live streaming of our home games.
