Mighty Oaks Softball Sweeps Sussex County in Home Doubleheader
Pennsville, NJ. - The Salem Community College softball team delivered an impressive offensive performance on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader against Sussex County Community College with an 11–2 victory in game one and a 19–5 win in game two. With the sweep, the Mighty Oaks even their season record at 2-2.
Salem's lineup came alive throughout the day, combining for 25 hits and 30 runs across the two games, while the pitching staff limited Sussex County offensively.
Game One: Salem 11, Sussex County 2
The Mighty Oaks opened the day with a strong all-around performance, scoring early and consistently to secure an 11-2 victory.
Savannah Palverento led the offense with a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a home run, while also stealing a base. Megan Koski added two hits and a run scored, and Lilly Peverelle contributed a big performance with two hits, including a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored.
Salem's offense was balanced throughout the lineup. Jordyn Busch drove in two runs, while Jaylene Aguirre delivered a key two-base hit and finished with three RBIs. Jalyn Rambally and Sawyer Simmons also added RBIs as the Mighty Oaks continued to build their lead.
On the mound, Raegan Wilson earned the win, pitching four strong innings while allowing just one unearned run on two hits and striking out five. Palverento closed the game in the circle, striking out three in one inning of work.
Salem also showed aggressiveness on the bases with stolen bases from Palverento, Koski, Chantelle Haskie, Simmons, and Peverelle.
Game Two: Salem 19, Sussex County 5
The Mighty Oaks offense exploded in the second game, scoring 19 runs on 17 hits to complete the sweep.
Jaylene Aguirre powered the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, while scoring three runs. Tiana Wilson had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Bella Rappa contributed a big performance with two doubles and two RBIs, while Megan Koski scored three runs, added two hits, and stole three bases.
Several other Mighty Oaks chipped in offensively, including Emme Witter (two RBIs), Jolee Robinson (two RBIs), Chantelle Haskie, and Lilly Peverelle, who added another multi-hit performance.
Salem's aggressive base running played a major role in the victory, as the Mighty Oaks stole 18 bases in the game, including four from Tiana Wilson and four from Jalyn Rambally.
In the circle, Jordyn Busch earned the win, pitching four innings with seven strikeouts. Emme Witter closed the game with a scoreless inning of relief.
With the doubleheader sweep, Salem improves to 2-2 on the season. The Mighty Oaks will return to action Saturday, March 7, when they host Monroe University – Bronx in another doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
