North East, MD. - The Salem Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Cecil County Community College, falling 5-0 in game one before bouncing back in dominant fashion with an 11-1 victory in game two. With the split, the Mighty Oaks move to 17-13 on the season.
Game One: Cecil County 5, Salem 0
The Mighty Oaks struggled to generate offense in the opener, managing just zero hits against a strong Cecil County pitching performance. Salem worked four walks but was unable to capitalize, striking out 19 times as a team.
Jalyn Rambally, Jocelyn Melendez, and Lilly Peverelle each reached base via walks, while Emme Witter accounted for the team's only stolen base.
In the circle, Raegan Wilson (6-5) turned in a solid effort despite the loss, pitching all six innings while allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits. Defensive miscues proved costly, as two errors contributed to Cecil County's scoring opportunities.
Game Two: Salem 11, Cecil County 1 (5 innings)
Salem responded in a big way in game two, erupting for 11 runs on nine hits to secure the split via run-rule victory.
Jalyn Rambally set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. Lilly Peverelle added a strong performance with two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Jaylene Aguirre delivered the biggest blow with a triple and two RBIs.
Emme Witter contributed two hits and two runs scored, and Tiana Wilson, Sawyer Simmons, and Bella Rappa each drove in runs as part of a balanced offensive attack. Salem also showed discipline at the plate, drawing five walks and executing three sacrifice plays.
Jordyn Busch (8-5) was outstanding in the circle, allowing just one unearned run on one hit over five innings while striking out six. She worked around three walks and kept Cecil County off balance throughout the game.
The Mighty Oaks will look to build on their momentum as they travel to face Raritan Valley Community College on Friday, April 10. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
