CARNEYS POINT, NJ - The Salem Community College softball team delivered a historic offensive performance on Sophomore Day, sweeping a doubleheader against Raritan Valley Community College in dominant fashion, 36-3 and 31-1. With the two wins, the Mighty Oaks close out the regular season at 28-18 and carry significant momentum into the upcoming Region 19 Tournament.
Game One: Salem 36, Raritan Valley 3
The Mighty Oaks wasted no time putting on a show for their sophomore class, erupting for 36 runs on 17 hits while drawing an eye-popping 20 walks.
Sophomore Bella Rappa led the offensive onslaught with a monster performance, going 4-for-5 with 10 RBIs, two stolen bases, and a double. Jolee Robinson added six RBIs on two hits, while Lilly Peverelle powered the lineup with two home runs and five RBIs. Jalyn Rambally contributed a triple, three hits, four RBIs, and three stolen bases in a well-rounded effort.
Additional contributions came from Ava Ortiz (2 hits, 3 RBIs), Pahola Chavez (2 hits), and Chantelle Haskie (2 RBIs), as Salem's lineup produced from top to bottom.
In the circle, Raegan Wilson earned the win, tossing four innings while allowing three runs and striking out one. Rappa and Tiana Wilson combined in relief to close out the victory.
Game Two: Salem 31, Raritan Valley 1
The offensive fireworks continued in game two as Salem plated 31 runs on 14 hits while again showcasing patience at the plate with 23 walks.
Lilly Peverelle stayed red-hot, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a game-high eight RBIs. Savannah Palverento was perfect at the plate (3-for-3) with three RBIs and three stolen bases, while Megan Koski added two hits, three RBIs, and three stolen bases of her own.
Jolee Robinson, Jaylene Aguirre, and Emme Witter each drove in multiple runs, and the team once again capitalized on aggressive baserunning, tallying numerous stolen bases across the lineup.
Jordyn Busch earned the win in the circle, delivering a strong complete game performance. She allowed just one run on four hits while striking out seven over five innings.
The sweep marks a fitting end to the regular season for Salem, as the team honored its sophomores with one of the most explosive offensive days in program history. The Mighty Oaks now turn their attention to the Region 19 postseason tournament, set to begin Friday, May 1, where they will look to continue their impressive form and make a deep playoff run.
