Salem Community College Falls to Palm Beach State, 59-56
Carneys Point, NJ. - Salem Community College's women's basketball team continued its early-season challenges on Thursday, falling to Palm Beach State College in a tough matchup that dropped the Mighty Oaks to 0–3 on the year.
Despite the loss, Salem saw several strong individual performances—most notably from sophomore guard Tanijya Shaw, who led the Mighty Oaks with 16 points while adding 4 rebounds. Shaw provided steady scoring throughout the night and once again proved to be one of Salem's most reliable offensive options.
Forward Jayda Hunter delivered a dominant effort on the glass, pulling down 19 rebounds, including several key defensive boards, while also contributing 8 points. Hunter's interior presence kept Salem competitive throughout the game, helping limit second-chance opportunities for Palm Beach State.
Freshmen Ray'Nescia King and Kasey Oliver each chipped in 8 points, giving Salem additional scoring punch as the team worked to keep pace offensively.
Although Palm Beach State controlled momentum for much of the contest, Salem tied the game up at 56 with less than 15 seconds left in the game. Salem showed stretches of improved ball movement, defensive effort, and rebounding - areas the team hopes to build on moving forward.
The Mighty Oaks now turn their attention to their next opportunity to break into the win column. Salem will travel to face Essex County College on Saturday, November 22 at 12:00 PM, looking to secure their first victory of the season.
