Salem Community College Falls to UCNJ
Carney Point, NJ. - The Salem Community College women's basketball team battled throughout but ultimately fell to undefeated Union College of New Jersey, losing a tough contest as UCNJ improved to 10-0 on the season. The loss moves the Mighty Oaks to 0-6 as they continue to search for their first win of the year.
Salem struggled to find an offensive rhythm, but several players turned in gritty performances. Tanijya Shaw led the Mighty Oaks with 11 points, adding 9 rebounds and playing a team-high 37 minutes. Shaw attacked the basket consistently, going 5-for-8 from the free-throw line while also contributing defensively with two steals.
Paula Wilson provided a spark off the bench, scoring 5 points with 4 rebounds, a steal and a block in 27 minutes. Kasey Oliver made the most of her time on the floor, finishing with 5 points on 2-of-3 shooting.
Freshman guard Ray'Nescia King battled through a cold shooting night but remained active across the stat sheet with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
In the paint, Jayda Hunter continued her strong rebounding presence, pulling down 8 boards to go with 3 points, while Justine Cardona added 4 points and 2 rebounds off the bench.
Despite the effort, UCNJ's depth and efficiency proved too much, allowing the Owls to stay undefeated and maintain control throughout the game.
Salem will look to regroup and get into the win column as they return to action on Thursday, December 4, traveling to Bucks County Community College for a 5:00 PM matchup.
