Mighty Oaks Women Beat Cecil, 69-64
North East, MD. - The Salem Community College women's basketball team earned a gritty 69–64 win over Cecil College, picking up a key victory and improving to 2–8 on the season.
Salem was paced by an outstanding performance from Tanijya Shaw, who scored a game-high 27 points while playing all 40 minutes. Shaw was efficient from the field, shooting 11-of-20, and came up with timely baskets down the stretch to help the Mighty Oaks secure the win.
The Mighty Oaks also received a strong effort from Justine Cardona off the bench. Cardona finished with 16 points, including 10-of-16 shooting from the free-throw line, providing a steady scoring presence and helping Salem maintain its lead late in the game.
In the frontcourt, Kasey Oliver added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Daniella Gustin controlled the paint with 13 rebounds to go along with six points. Gustin's rebounding was a key factor in limiting Cecil's second-chance opportunities.
Defensively, Salem was active throughout the night. Ray'Nescia King and Tanijya Shaw combined for six steals, and Jayda Hunter contributed three blocks to anchor the interior defense.
Salem will now break for the winter recess before returning to action at home. The Mighty Oaks will host Monroe University–Bronx at the DuPont Fieldhouse on January 6 at 7:00 p.m. as they look to build momentum in the second half of the season.
