Salem Women’s Basketball Defeats Lackawanna, 63–47
SCRANTON,PA - The Salem Community College women's basketball team earned a convincing 63–47 victory over Lackawanna College on Tuesday evening, showcasing balanced scoring and strong defensive effort at the DuPont Fieldhouse. With the win, the Salem Mighty Oaks improve to 3–12 on the season.
Salem controlled the tempo throughout the contest, using aggressive defense and dominance on the glass to pull away from Lackawanna. The Mighty Oaks forced turnovers, limited second-chance opportunities, and maintained their composure in key moments to secure the 16-point win.
Tanijya Shaw led all scorers with a standout performance, pouring in 25 points while also contributing eight steals, four rebounds, and four assists in a full 40 minutes of action. Shaw was relentless on both ends of the floor and set the tone defensively for Salem.
Kasey Oliver recorded a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while adding five offensive boards to help Salem control the paint. Paula Wilson added 12 points and eight rebounds, knocking down a pair of three-pointers to stretch the floor. Jayda Hunter chipped in six points and nine rebounds, while Ray'Nescia King contributed across the stat sheet with nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Off the bench, Daniella Gustin provided solid minutes, scoring four points and grabbing five rebounds to help maintain Salem's momentum.
Salem's defense held Lackawanna to just 47 points, emphasizing ball pressure and rebounding to close out the victory.
The Mighty Oaks will return to action next when they host Harcum College on Thursday, January 29, with a 5:00 p.m. tipoff at the DuPont Fieldhouse.
