Salem Community College Announces Resignation of Women’s Head Basketball Coach Brian Marsh
Carneys Point, NJ - Salem Community College Mighty Oaks women's basketball head coach Brian Marsh has announced his resignation after leading the program through a critical rebuilding era that helped restore stability and competitiveness to the Mighty Oaks.
Coach Marsh departs with a 23-41 overall record, but his impact on the program reaches far beyond wins and losses. Most notably, Marsh was the first head coach to successfully restart and sustain the women's basketball program after the College discontinued the sport in 2013.
When Salem Community College brought women's basketball back in 2019, the program faced significant challenges. In a difficult climate for women's athletics. One that saw multiple coaching transitions and an inability to consistently field a team. Marsh stepped in during 2023 and immediately provided leadership, organization, and direction.
His greatest accomplishment was ensuring the Mighty Oaks consistently took the floor. After several seasons of instability and roster shortages under previous leadership, Marsh assembled competitive rosters, recruited student-athletes committed to representing SCC, and restored credibility to the program. Under his guidance, the Mighty Oaks not only competed, but did so with resilience and pride.
"I thank Coach Marsh for his commitment to Salem Community College Athletics", stated Athletics Director Bob Hughes. "We wish him the best in his future coaching endeavors".
While his overall record stands at 23-41, the true measure of his leadership was bringing stability to a program that needed it most. In an era when many institutions struggled to sustain women's programs, Marsh's commitment ensured that women's basketball at SCC not only survived, but moved forward.
"I want to first thank my wife Tara and my kids for supporting me through my dream," said Coach Marsh. "I also want to thank Dr. Gorman, Bob Bunnell, Bob Hughes, Angel Rodriguez, John Holt and Mike Green for being great mentors and Head Coaches that gave me a lot of advice. I especially want to thank my boss Heather Stith who helped make this dream possible and ensure that it could work".
Salem Community College thanks Coach Marsh for his dedication, perseverance, and service to the Mighty Oaks community and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.
"We crawled and walked so that the next Coach can run and I will always be a SCC women's basketball fan," said Coach Marsh. "We all worked our butts off to get this program off the ground and I will forever be thankful for everyone that helped build this from nothing".
The College will begin a national search for the next head women's basketball coach immediately.
